Where Do Projects Go When They Die?

So I started working on this project when I was in Chillicothe about the low income community on the east side of the city, Sherman Park. The people around Chilli called this the worst place in the world. Residents said it was just junkies everywhere, people being shot and robbed, fights breaking out and just all the wicked things you could imagine. Being from Chicago and also a photojournalist it sounded like home. I went over to the area a few times. Talking with residents, making connections and shooting a little bit. I started to get a grip on what exactly I wanted to show and how the project would go. I even thought about taking all of the people who read my blog through the process of working on this story , Post 1, Post 2. But then I got the job in Rockford and well it never went anywhere too far. So here is where I pose the question. Where do projects go when they die?

I just wanted to hear from others about what do they do when they can no longer work on a project that they spent so much time on? Do you just let it sit on a hard drive as a reminder of make sure you work quicker to get more done, so if anything happens you will at least leave with something? Or do you not take a job in the middle of one? Or whatever because right now, it's just going to sit on my hard drive because it's nowhere flushed out as it should have been and it looks like more of a quick glance at a neighborhood than diving into understanding the people and the issues that they face.

So let me know what you guys think about the situation and what you all do when projects don't go exactly the way you think.
